More individual brilliances are what we need
Today’s match against Burnley looked comfortable and 3-0 sounds emphatic. The truth is in between, it could have been a lot worse for the boys in claret and blue but really it could have been a lot closer.
Before anything else is said, praise must be attributed to the championship sides for taking the game to their superior Premiership rivals. Watching yesterday’s game between Coventry and Chelsea and Burnley’s visit to the Emirates I can say that Championship sides are competitive, brave and optimistic, the last adjective cannot be applied to some of the Premiership sides. Both Coventry and Burnley didn’t really deserve to lose as they did, but the quality of the finishing is the difference between the Premiership and the Championship. All you need is half a chance sometimes in a game of several tactical battles. And here Arsenal have to be saluted.
The game was a very cagey affair until Vela’s exquisite chip broke deadlock. The Mexican wonder is developing quite a reputation by perfecting an art lacking sometimes at the very top level. It sometimes is bewildering why the lad can miss more simpler chances, perhaps he feels his goals need to be a higher value for the Emirates faithful. If Vela’s goal wasn’t special enough, Eduardo’s goal was even more ridiculous. Mr Wenger described it as a ‘beach’ goal and I think that is a brilliant description. The angle was against him but some quick thinking and footwork not really seen in this country was enough to beat the Burnley goalkeeper. The third goal was team brilliance, however, Song’s back heel was special to bring in Eboue who’s finish was reminiscient of the Brazilian right back in the ‘greatest team goal’ in 1972 WC final.
With Roma next I think just one moment of briliance will suffice for us going to the next round. As for the Premiership, we know what Blackburn are capable of under Uncle Sam’s management. Still, I was suprised to see them play as good as they did at OT and indeed were unlucky not to draw if win against Utd. At 0-0, a chip or a beach goal will do nicely to break the shackles…
