Expect Bendtner and Arshavin to start at Anfield

April 20, 2009

Playing Liverpool will be a lot easier because Gerrard won’t be playing. Nevertheless, these days the merseysiders are programmed to play without Gerrard a lot more often. Last week’s spectacular draw against Chelsea is one reason why we should not take them as lightly.

Our boys will be desperate to beat Liverpool on Tuesday night for two reasons. One, they were poor on Saturday so will want to stop the rot. Two, They want to exact revenge for previous Anfield misery (they haven’t won there in the league since 2003).

Mission Anfield will be that much more harder we have key players missing in defence and attack. On the positive side Sagna is expected to return and we can expect to see Eduardo and Arshavin also in the starting line up. The latter has worked well with Bendtner so I won’t be too surprised if the Dane was involved too.

I would be massively surprised if Vela started however. Talented as the Mexican is, I really hope he is only given substitute appearances this season. This is because I still feel he needs more time to get used to the hustle and bustle of the Premiership.

This game could be Fabianski’s last of the season as Almunia is back against Middlesborough on Sunday. I expect a more assured performance from our Polish goalie. A lot depends on how our defence plays. A good defence always makes a goalie look good, just ask Cech who is never the same if he plays in front of a weak defence.

Looking at the table we are 9 points behind Liverpool so a win here would close the gap to 6 points. And this in a season where we have shocking results and an equally shocking luck with injuries. Doesn’t sound that bad after all, does it?

Who should be in the starting line up? I expect to see a line up like this:

Fabianski

Sagna Toure Silvestre Gibbs

Walcott Song Fabregas Arshavin

Eduardo

Bendtner
