How about….

May 8, 2009

It is pretty hard to think of anything to say now Arsenal have only, 3rd place to play off. Prospects of claiming that position are slim given we face Chelsea and then United away before finishing off at Stoke.

Strange season it has been. At times we have been imperious, surprising many with positive results. Conversely, we have managed to reserve our worst performances when better was expected. I don’t need to give any examples as such as most of you already know which games I am referring to.

News has quickly been going around that Arshavin will not face Chelsea unless he recovers from his bout of flu. Few people are blaming Vela for this, but that is a little harsh, I mean wasn’t he quarantined? Perhaps my money is on Cesc given his hot and cold performance against United in both games. Now that is just my opinion, not a fact. I don’t have that written on a sheet of paper like Rafa Benitez.

So, now the question is what sort of team do we play against Chelsea on Sunday. Personally, I’m one who believes that Theo should replace Arshavin on the left. The likelihood is that Anelka will play on the right wing and he is no Rooney or Kuyt when it comes to tracking back. With regards to the right side, I would play Nasri, as he is far more impressive there then on the right wing.

If Wenger was to be brave, which I suspect won’t be the case, how about whacking Ramsey there? We’ve all heard how playing Rugby briefly when he was young helped to make him a stronger player and that consequently he relishes a fiesty game so why not? Put it this way, I would rather play him then Diaby if squad rotation came into force. Adebayor has been getting the negative criticism generally but for me Diaby’s performance particularly against Chelsea means I really don’t want to see him again for a while.

Options in defence are rather limited with Clichy now not available for the rest of the season. If Silvestre has recovered from his injury he would most likely play at left back and Djourou will continue to partner Toure in the middle. Gibbs I assume will most likely play against Stoke.

Have a good Friday to all who got to the end of this post. If you read it all, even better. Adios for now amigos (I’m not Spanish btw, just for the record)

If I was an optimist, I’d say it’s the perfect time to give our young players a chance to play pressure games with no consequence. So give time to Vela, Ramsey, Coquelin, Thomas, Bendy, Theo, Denilson, Song, Fabianki, Gibbs, Djourou… and whoever else you can think of.

But not Diaby. Please, not Diaby.

Out of that list I think we will see everyone except Coquelin and Thomas. I really hope Diaby doesn’t play again, him getting outmuscled by Chelsea’s mob was disapointing. For me thats when the tie was lost, as the saying goes win the midfield, win the game.
