You better be stoked about this game!

May 24, 2009

And so the last game of the season if finally here. It is a game that we should be really looking forward to, but do we care about it much? Probably not as much now given nothing will change in terms of overall league standing. Nevertheless, I’m expecting sunshine and I’m not talking just about the weather here.

Football is a funny game. Couple of weeks ago I was more worried about the Stoke game than the Utd game which took place last week. However, so impressed was I by our resilience at Old Trafford that I believe even more comprehensively that there is more right than wrong about our club. Make no mistake about it, this season will definitely toughen up the boys.

Stoke are not to be taken lightly. This team are probably for me the reason why Utd won the title and why Liverpool didn’t. Even Fergie admitted that the result of the season for his team was the late winner at Stoke. Conversely, Liverpool failed to beat the Potters home or away. And of course I don’t need to remind you what Stoke did to us at Arsenal.

Adebayor and Almunia won’t be playing. There has been a lot of speculation and opinions on the former and I will be writing a piece very soon. Am I bothered about his absence tomorrow however? Not really. Apart from Arshavin and Bendtner who I hope play, and Silvestre who I hope doesn’t now, I’m not really bothered about the rest of the team make up. Although it would be nice if Ramsey starts, possibly on the right side. Walcott is having it a bit too easy there in terms of competition, at the moment only Nasri can rival him there as an attacking threat.

Oh and it would be nice to play our 2nd choice central defence pair of Song and Djourou. Nice game for them, the result doesn’t matter really but the performance will. No wait, of course the result matters. We want a win, because good football deserves that. We want a win, because if Stoke did it that would make a double for them and we can’t let that happen. We want a win, simply because the sun will shine at the Emirates promising a brighter season next year. If that isn’t worth singing for, what is, Gooners?
