Loan Senderos to Sunderland instead

July 14, 2009

Since the arrival of Vermaelen, speculation has intensified with regards to which Arsenal defender will exit the Emirates. The media have not got a preference on who they want to kick out and us fans are not clearly unified in our own opinions. Going purely by percentages, the money is on Gallas and/or Senderos to leave.

The argument for Senderos’ possible departure is strong. He was left traumatized after the Champions League game against Liverpool 2 years ago and I don’t think has ever played a competitive match for Arsenal. Of course he was on loan at Milan last season and we, along with Senderos himself, thought this deal would benefit him. Word was that Milan would even sign him if he impressed sufficiently. Sadly, the Swiss didn’t impress enough and made only 15 appearances, which I think he would have made at Arsenal anyway had he decided against going on loan at the San Siro.

Now one of the transfer rumour is suggesting that Steve Bruce, who we know loves an Arsenal player or two, is interested in Senderos. I stated in April on this blog that Bruce never criticizes Arsenal ever compared to the other managers simply because he wants our players.

He has built his reputation on developing players much like Arsene except he uses the players Arsenal have or Arsene’s opinion. I don’t need to give you examples but, Palacios and Upson for the record. The development of Upson since his departure has perhaps shown the short sightedness of the fans and management at Arsenal. This cannot be blamed, if anything, I witnessed Upson’s horror show when we were losing 2-0 to Villa at half time. We won the game 3-2 (he was subbed at half time) and the rest is history. Incidentally you can read a review of that game on my blog also here.

Senderos’ horror at Anfield closely mirrors that of Upson against Villa. So what should be done then? Must we flog Phillipe also like we did with Upson? I suggest a compromise. Yes, we do flog him but, only for a season. Upson’s game improved a great deal when he moved to Birmingham under Bruce’s tutelage and last year even Bramble was looking every bit good as promised years ago when he was at Ipswich. If Bruce can make Bramble (who was Wigan’s player of the season last year by the way) a solid defender then Senderos is a certainty when it comes to improvement.

This deal will benefit both clubs as Bruce will get a promising and dedicated defender in Phillipe and Arsenal can focus on incorporating Vermaelen better in the Arsenal defence. It also means that we can get at least another year of Gallas and Toure will know that they will play a fair amount of games.

Phillipe Senderos is still 24 and has yet to reach his peak years, for me it would be a mistake to let him go now. That is my opinion but I would love to hear what you Gooners think on this issue.

Not sure how you can tell Senderos was tramuatized by Liverpool game.

However, if you don't learn anything from Maldini and Nesta then maybe you should change your profession.

I think the fact that he didn't play often after that reflects this. It was reported as well that Phillipe was distraught after the CL quarter final.

Of course he would have learnt something from those two, that shouldn't be in doubt. The truth however is that he didn't play as much as he would have liked to. Thus he didn't gain enough game time and sufficiently didn't impress Milan for them to buy him outright.

Loan consolidation is a great option. This basically means that all of the loans that students borrow from various financial institution will be combined into one loan that they would then only have to pay.

Paying for a college education is expensive these days. This is why students need all the help they can possibly help. Thanks to student loans- students would have the opportunity to complete their education, and be given the best chance to be successful in the future.
