If you love Bob Wilson, Willow Foundation, Life, you’ll help this lovely lady!
As a goalkeeper for Arsenal, Bob Wilson captured the heart of many Gooners. He gave 11 years service as a player before another 28 years as a goalkeeping coach. The word ‘legend’ is thrown around a lot these days, but it is a title Wilson richly deserves. But it doesn’t stop there…
Wilson is a family man through and through. In 1998 however, his daughter Anna passed away at the age of 31, just days before her 32nd birthday. Wilson set up “the Willow foundation” in 1999 as a tribute to her life. It was also set up to help adults aged 16-40 who are battling a life threatening illness. Wilson’s legendary status doesn’t stop there either…
Not content perhaps with inspiring kids to football, he is now inspiring people to take up challenges for the sake of the Willow Foundation. Suzanne Meiklejohn is one terrific example.
Born in the UK, but now living in Spain, Suzanne will soon be back in freezing cold territory. No not the UK, I said freezing cold. How about the Frozen Tundra? That is 300 miles north of the arctic circle, where a team of huskies will help her to navigate, around.
Inhospitable temperatures of between -35C and 50C await her. And oh, she hates the cold, that is why she moved to Spain to begin with! So she really is throwing herself in harsh territory, not one she enjoys herself. Then again how many of us would?!
It certainly is brave of her to take up this challenge. But why else is she doing it?
1. To honour Wilson’s late daughter, Anna’s memory. Suzanne is turning 32 this year herself so she understands the need to celebrate life and also live life to the fullest.
2. The Willow Foundation is 10 years old this year and what better way to acknowledge this than by taking up a really ardous challenge?
3. The Willow Foundation caters for people aged 16-40. I’m in this age bracket myself and I know it is really an exciting period of life. Suzanne aims to use her good health to do help those who aren’t as fortunate.

What a great blog post! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me with my challenge. Arsenal fans have always been generous supporters of the Willow Foundation, so I really appreciate all your efforts. I received two donations last night that have tipped my fundraising total just over my minimum target of 3,500 so with 4 months still to go before I leave for the Arctic every penny raised now is an added bonus that the charity weren’t expecting. x
